Azalea Festival Home Tour

Fire Station No. 2, The Way House, the Dudley Chadbourn House and the Parsley House are four of the houses chosen for the 2012 Azalea Festival Home Tour.

Each year in April the Historic Wilmington Foundation’s Azalea Festival Home Tour features houses in downtown Wilmington, NC that are selected for individual appeal and architectural or historical significance. This year the Home Tour will fall on April 14th and 15th.  All proceeds from the Home Tour will advance the Historic Wilmington Foundation's efforts to protect and preserve the irreplaceable historic resources of Wilmington and the Lower Cape Fear region.

Board members gather for their annual retreat at the Wilmington USO, Saturday January 28th.


Historic Wilmington Foundation hosted a meeting on January 12th of area planners, downtown executives and preservation professionals with North Carolina’s new Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer, Ramona Bartos (far left, bottom picture) and members of her staff. There was a wide ranging discussion of preservation issues at the local and state level. A tour of several downtown buildings with preservation tax credit potential was held following the meetings.

Tar Heels Go Walking

A Partnership with New Hanover County Schools since 2009, Historic Wilmington Foundation guides have delivered 172 tours for more than 7,000 third graders, their teachers and parent volunteers.. The tour educates students about historic preservation, public art, and Wilmington history and development.

Tar Heels Go Walking received a Gertrude S. Carraway Award of Merit for outstanding achievement
from Preservation North Carolina in 2010.
