The Foundation has two new walking tours scheduled to begin in late spring! We are actively recruiting guides. The Forest Hills Tour will showcase the architectural, social, and cultural history of the community. The Streetcar Suburbs Tour will focus on Wilmington's first two suburbs, Carolina Place and Carolina Heights and the development of these historic neighborhoods, the people who lived here, and the preservation process that has made them an integral part of the city's history. The tour guide will have the opportunity to include historical facts about Wilmington's history, as well as connect the city to broader movements in the nation's history. Both tours will include a strong architectural focus too. The Foundation is also seeking volunteer guides for the Award-Winning Tar Heels tour. The Tar Heels Go Walking Guides have delivered 172 tours for more than 7,000 third graders, their teachers and parent volunteers. The tour educates students about historic preservation, public art, and Wilmington history and development. All three tours require approximately eight hours of training including orientation, skills in public speaking, architectural styles, and a practice tour.
